The ruling on energy healers

Question: What is the ruling on energy healers and those who promote energy healing, sometimes known as advocates of personal development? Some people warn against their falsehoods without issuing the rightful religious verdict they deserve, especially since they introduce themselves as Muslims and believers. What is the Islamic stance on this matter?

Answer: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.
From my observation of the words and positions of the advocates of energy healing and what has been said about them, they are, in the religion of Allah, considered heretics and disbelievers. They appear to embrace both disbelief and faith simultaneously. They display disbelief, atheism, and polytheism; and when the proof is established against them, or when their blatant heresy and disbelief are pointed out, they deny it and claim to be Muslims and believers. This is their pattern—whenever they are confronted with their disbelief and polytheism, they deny it and claim to be Muslims and believers. Thus, they neither remain firm in their disbelief and atheism, nor do they remain firm in their faith. This is the characteristic of the heretics (zanadiqa) who play with the religion of Allah and the faith of Muslims. They are more dangerous to Islam and Muslims than those who conceal their hypocrisy, or those who openly declare disbelief without denying it.

Allah, the Almighty, says:
“Indeed, those who have believed and then disbelieved, then believed and then disbelieved, and then increased in disbelief—never will Allah forgive them or guide them to a way” (An-Nisa: 137).
This verse was revealed regarding the heretics (zanadiqa) and hypocrites who manipulate the religion of Allah. They repeatedly engage in disbelief without ever staying firm in faith or disbelief to avoid being held accountable for either.

As for the advocates of energy healing, my ruling applies to them specifically. As for those who listen to them, most of them are ignorant, and they deserve to be taught and shown the falsehood and heresy of those they listen to, and made aware of the dangers they face.
