The Tactics of Satan in Deceiving the Believers

"And Satan whispered to him, he said: 'O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of immortality and a kingdom that will never decay?'" (Taha: 120).

This tree was like any other tree; it had nothing that distinguished it from the other trees of Paradise, except that it was forbidden to eat from it. In Paradise, there are many trees, fruits, and blessings far better than it. Therefore, it was not something that could attract Adam, especially with Allah’s prohibition from eating from it.

Satan, the arch-enemy of Adam and his descendants, knew this well. So, he began to adorn the tree for Adam, describing it with attributes and qualities that it did not possess, making Adam inclined to eat from it. He, the liar, falsely claimed that eating from this tree would grant eternal life and an unending kingdom. This promise of immortality and everlasting dominion was something that souls naturally crave and desire. Adam, weakened by his desire, believed the deceitful enemy and ate from the tree.

This is the way of Satan with every falsehood – even until the Day of Judgment. He makes falsehood seem appealing and palatable. To ensure it does not fail, he attributes praise and misleading qualities to it, describing it in ways that make it seem attractive and pleasant to the ears and hearts.
