Those who harm believing men and women

The Consequences of Harmful Actions Against Believers: Defamation and Lies in Islam

Introduction

In Islam, harming believers, whether men or women, is a serious offense. Those who harm believers are not truly believers themselves but are instead considered disbelievers, hypocrites, and corrupt individuals. They act from diseased hearts, and their actions are driven by malice against the faith of the Muslims.

The Harmful Effects of Defaming Believers

These individuals harm believers not for any wrongdoing they have committed, but because of their faith and righteousness. The goodness that befalls the believers disturbs them, while the misfortunes that afflict the believers bring them joy. As Allah says in the Qur'an: "[Without what they have earned]" (Al-Ahzab: 58). They often slander believers in public, attributing things to them that they did not say or do, or even exaggerating their words and actions.

The Grave Sin of Slander and Falsehood

This behavior leads to a great sin: the sin of lying, falsehood, slander, and injustice. Those who harm believers without any fault of their own are committing a serious offense. But what about those who defame believers for their faith, good deeds, struggles, and their efforts to promote what is good and forbid what is wrong? How much more severe is the sin of those who defame righteous scholars, acknowledged for their knowledge, virtue, and goodness?

The Severe Consequences of Defaming Scholars

When individuals spread lies and slander about great scholars who are recognized for their knowledge and goodness, they commit a grave offense. These acts of defamation lead to severe punishment on the Day of Judgment. As stated in the Qudsi hadith, "Whoever opposes a friend of Mine, I have declared war against him." (Bukhari).

A Warning from the Early Generations

The early generations of Muslims warned against harming believers, as Allah protects them and becomes angry for their sake. It was said, "Beware of harming the believer, for Allah protects him and is angry for him." This shows the severity of the issue and the importance of upholding the rights of fellow believers, especially those who dedicate their lives to knowledge and righteousness.

Conclusion

Harming believers, defaming them, and spreading lies and slander are serious sins in Islam. These actions not only harm the individuals but also lead to severe consequences in the Hereafter. It is essential to protect the honor and dignity of Muslims, especially the scholars who contribute greatly to the faith. Let us be cautious of our actions and words, avoiding harm and seeking the pleasure of Allah through good conduct and respect for others.
