Understanding Allah’s Knowledge: A Reflection on His Attributes

Understanding Allah’s Knowledge: A Reflection on His Attributes

“And they encompass not a thing of His knowledge” (Taha: 110). Allah, the Exalted, encompasses all things with His infinite knowledge; nothing of His creation or the conditions of His servants is hidden from Him. His knowledge is complete and all-encompassing, while His servants, however much they search or strive, can never fully comprehend His essence. No matter how deeply they explore or take difficult paths, they will never reach an understanding of God's true nature, for it is beyond human capacity.

For this reason, we have been prohibited from attempting to contemplate the essence of God or seeking to understand the true nature of His being. This is a path that leads only to confusion and misguidance. Many have tried and failed in their attempts to grasp the ungraspable.

Instead, we are encouraged to reflect on His supreme attributes, His beautiful names, and the signs in the world around us that point to the greatness and majesty of His characteristics. This form of knowledge—contemplating Allah’s names and attributes—is highly encouraged and brings the servant closer to their Lord. By focusing on His divine qualities, we can deepen our understanding and strengthen our relationship with Allah.
